Schools across the country hire about 210,500 K-12 teachers a year, according to Projections Central. Most of those openings replace teachers who retire or leave rather than adding new positions: projected employment for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and secondary teachers is flat to slightly down through 2034. The openings are real either way. They just concentrate in particular subjects and particular states, which is why the search starts with where you want to work.
